My Connection Piece

connection art

Our assignment was to create a work of art with the theme of connection. All four of us took on different views of connection. I took on the more physical view of connection.

STAGE 1:              we had to go through the saturation stage of the process in which we had to come up with twenty ideas that came to mind when i thought of the word connection. my twenty words could be litteraly anything that came to mind with this thought (my twenty words were integration, puzzles, e-mail, internet, classrooms, chains, necklaces, ropes, fence, door hinges, tools, bones, shelves, collage, family, chair, glue, welding, strength, staples).
STAGE 2:            The incubation stage was next. in the incubation stage we had to choose three of our twenty ideas to grow off of and state wht they made me think of connection. The three ideas that i chose were integration, family, and puzzle. integration is people of different ethnic backgrounds connecting in friendship, family is people connected through blood, appearence, life, and love, puzzle pieces connect to make a bigger picture.  During this stage i also had to draw very messy sketches of possibilitiesfor what i could do with these ideas.
STAGE 3:            this stage was illumination. first in this stage i had to write in my notebook what i was then inspired to make. to this i replied that i was inspired right then to make a puzzle maybe 3D. then we had to draw a sketch of our idea and this would be similar to our last sketch but more detailed now. then i had to explain how i planned to accomplish this and i said that i would maybe use gimp, the internet, my photagraphy, and some paintings maybe.
STAGE 4:          this was the final stage (verification). n  first in this stage i had to write any final ideas, what i was scared of or unsure how to purue with these were my worries, making the cubes, sturdyness, shape, and size.

After the  verification stage was complete, i then had to go on with my project and bring my final idea to life.  my first challenge was the cubes, i tried origami and they were too flimsy and small, then i tried creostone and it was too breakable and crumbly, then finally we got these cubes from walmart, they were styrofoam. to these i covered in plaster and sanded them down. then i did my watercolor painting of tree roots connecting to the ground. this was as far as i got before i ran out of time due to the end of the school year. it is 3D but it only has one image.

Artist Statement

Art can be anything you want it to be. Art has imagination and creativity flowing from it. We did a project earlier this quarter and in it we had to choose an artist that we think we relate to. My artist was Joseph Mallord William Turner. He does beautiful work that is very realistic without being too realistic. This style choice inspired me in many ways to try some landscapes, which is what I enjoy doing most in art, in this kind of style. For me art is my life. Art is not only a style or action, it is way of seeing things.
